On Friday 5 February Conor Burns visited the West Hants Club in Talbot Woods to see what the club has to offer and how they are supporting local tennis talent.
The club’s CEO Peter Elviss gave Conor a tour around the impressive site, which comprises 21 international tournament tennis courts, an indoor tennis centre, a state-of-the-art gym, two fitness studios, an indoor swimming pool with sauna and steam room, a high performance gym and many other facilities. Conor heard from Mr. Elviss about the training programmes especially for talented young tennis players, which run in conjunction with local schools to allow international young talent to train in Bournemouth at the club. The club has a team of over 10 Lawn Tennis Association-licensed tennis coaches and caters for all ages from 4 upwards.
After his visit Conor said: ‘It is fantastic to see the facilities that are being made available to talented local tennis players and to learn more about the role of the club in the community. I’d like to wish the players who train there the very best. Bournemouth hasn’t had a Grand Slam tennis champion since Virginia Wade – maybe one day another will emerge from the West Hants Club.’
