Conor Burns MP: A conservative with an independent mind

As your local Member of Parliament, Conor has always put Bournemouth and Poole first when speaking in the House of Commons.  Indeed in 2012 Conor resigned as a part of the Government 'pay roll' in order to vote against the Government.  He has proved not to be a poodle of the Whips when he was strong opinions.  One area where Conor defied the Whips was over Britain's funding settlement with the EU.

He has raised many local issues on the floor of the House, including language schools, Navitus Bay Wind Farm, park homes, traveller sites and the success of Bournemouth's two Universities in making Bournemouth the fastest growing digital economy in the country.

He sits on the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee, and uses this role to promote Bournemouth and Poole's tourist industry.

Conor has spoken widely on issues of national concern, including welfare reform, the recall of MPs, police stop and search powers, the Leveson Inquiry, taxation, immigration and health services.  He is also a regular contributor to debates on foreign affairs, including on Syria, Bahrain and Ukraine.
