For five days in August, Conor was one of five Members of Parliament and three Peers to visit Israel with the Conservative Friends of Israel. The trip featured a full itinerary of political and security briefings, giving the group a first-hand look at the latest situation in Israel, as well as cultural and historical visits.
The group visits included the Save a Child’s Heart in Holon where they met children from around the world receiving life-saving heart surgery, the British Ambassador’s residence in Tel Aviv, and dinner with dinner with the Israel-UK Chamber of Commerce, to learn about the flourishing ties and bilateral trade between the two countries.
Conor also met with Israeli Members of Parliament, before a moving visit to Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem where a wreath was laid.
Along with visiting the West Bank in the Palestinian Territory, the group also received security briefings on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon, and travelled to to the Golan Heights and Israel’s border with Syria, overlooking the turmoil of the civil war.
Conor Burns, described Israel as a country of “such amazing contrasts”, hailing “a new beginning” of deeper and stronger ties between the UK and Israel following the UK’s vote to leave the European Union.
