Peter Bywater from Dorset Energy Advice Centre has been named as one of the nations’ Heat Heroes, after his work to tackle fuel poverty in Bournemouth has received special recognition.

Coinciding with Fuel Poverty Awareness day which took place on Friday 10th February 2012, the Heat Heroes Award Scheme, organised by fuel poverty charity NEA and ScottishPower, aims to recognise individuals who go ‘above and beyond’ what would be expected in the course of their work to help those people who are suffering from the effects of fuel poverty and struggling to heat their homes.

Conor rolled up his sleeves to become a construction apprentice for the day at the site of the Old Post Office in Bournemouth last week.

The event, which was organised by CITB-ConstructionSkills in partnership with Greendale Construction and the Federation of Master Builders, is one of several events around the UK that celebrate the achievements and skills of apprentices in the run up to National Apprenticeship Week (6 – 10 February 2012).

Young people have the opportunity to share their views on Budget 2012

Conor Burns MP is supporting a new initiative called Chance to be Chancellor and is calling on schools in Bournemouth West to take up the challenge of putting together the nation’s budget.  Chance to be Chancellor is organised by Citizenship Foundation, an independent educational charity, in partnership with Aviva, as a part of the 'Paying for It' programme which develops economic awareness in schools across the UK.

The Home Secretary Theresa May has announced plans to halt the sale of stolen scrap metal by launching a new taskforce dedicated to tackling transactions of illegal scrap dealers. In their first 3 weeks alone they have seen over 35 arrests, the seizure of large sums of cash and restraining orders issued. All of this highlights the scale of the problem that our communities are currently facing and the challenges that lie ahead.

Conor Burns is the Conservative Member of Parliament for Bournemouth West, Branksome East and Alderney. He lives in Westbourne in Bournemouth West. He has pledged to be a community-focused MP who works as a voice in Westminster for his constituents, putting them before anything else.

Conor's constituency is a new one, including Bournemouth West, parts of Branksome, the Bourne Valley and Alderney in Poole. The area is diverse, with urban and rural neighbourhoods and a population of young families, key workers, students and pensioners.
